This t-shirt was designed circa 2004 and is based on actual, publicly available protein structural information. The artist compiled the structures of individual protein as well as multi-protein numerical representations and then combined them into the complete phage T4 virion particle. A similar rendering by the same artist can be found on the cover of the book, Bacteriophage Ecology, as well as the first two covers of the journal, Bacteriophage (January/February, 2011, and March/April, 2011). For additional work, again by the same artist, see "The T4 Prolate head", "Zooming Through the Tail Tube – A Steve McQuinn Perspective", "Eye on the Needle: Phage T4 Puncturing Point May Answer Penetrating Questions", "The Contractile-Tail Sheath, In Three Dimensions", and "Rendering Phage Heads". In addition, the following is a computer generated artistic rendering of the phage T4 tail sheath.

Steve is currently rendering computer-generated 2D and 3D videos. For a sampling of these latter efforts, see his Vimeo page.
