This is the fourth paragraph: "Many of the procedures are standard exercises used in classes taught by the author. While they may have undergone many mutations to fit a particular teaching situation, it is obvious that the exercises are adaptations, particularly from Adams (1950, 1959) and from offspring mimeographed manuals used in phage courses in United States and European institutions. My special thanks go to those who prepared those manuals and who provided mimeographed copies. Of necessity, this collection of methods also relies heavily on published procedures devised by a number of scientists, to whom the author also expresses his gratitude."
